Stainless Steel Fabrication

Stainless steel has a far greater corrosion resistance than normal mild steel. It is used for applications requiring high corrosion resistance or extended life. It is an increasingly popular construction material with its whole life cost benefits contributing to towards more sustainable development.

Camchad stock the two main grades of stainless steel used in construction.

Grade 304 (1.4301) is the grade most often used for corrosion resistant reinforcement, suitable for most atmospheric and concrete covered environments.

Grade 316 (1.4401) has a higher molybdenum and nickel content than 304 (1.4301). It is more expensive but also has higher corrosion resistance and is the recommended grade for marine and corrosive environments.

Although the chemical composition and corrosion resistance are different, the physical properties of the 2 grades are similar.

Stainless Designs

Stainless Designs has established a reputation for providing high quality products at competitive prices and delivering them when promised. We manufacture a wide range of Stainless Steel items at our factory, including urinals, toilets, wash troughs, drinking fountains, hoppers and catering sinks. Many of our products can be despatched within 24 hours of order.

As well as our large range of standard products we have the ability to manufacture bespoke items to a client’s specification, if you cannot see the product you require on this web site please contact us.

Stainless is easy to weld but very difficult to keep flat, the coefficient of linear expansion is 1.7 times that of mild steel. There isn’t much you can do about that except to weld it quickly and by doing so minimise the heat input.

304 and 316 (as opposed to the L low carbon versions) suffer from weld decay. When heated to welding temperatures the Chromium combines with the Carbon leaving the steel short of Chromium and therefore unable to self repair itself.

Cascade Stainless Steel Repair Clamps, for permanent repair of damaged or burst water pipes to suit all pipe materials. Our Stainless Steel Clamps come in two types, a single band which has a 10mm range and a double band which has a 20mm range

  • planning and selection of appropriate inspection techniques
  • inspection activities
  • assessment of inspection results.

In order to correctly identify the appropriate inspection techniques, the asset integrity engineers identified a number of possible damage mechanisms which may have affected the integrity performance of the pipe where it had undergone low temperature excursions.  These ranged from a possible reduction in toughness and external pitting to cracking resulting from fatigue or external stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
